Fans glamour Celebrities thousands Derby

The Queen joined thousands of racegoers at Epsom Downs to see 16/1 outsider Masar win the Derby.

Norwegian William Buick came out of nowhere to scoop the £1.5million prize money, stealing the title from the 4/5 favourite Saxon Warrior - who only managed fourth place.

Bookmakers breathed a sigh of relief as the shock win meant they avoided paying out millions in bets.

More than 150,000 revellers drank Pimms and took selfies as they basked in the glorious 75F (24C) Surrey sunshine, which even saw the Queen take the unusual step of removing her coat.

Men turned up in top hats as the ladies tottered around the racecourse in high heels accompanied by colourful dresses, hats and fascinators.

Winning horse Masar is owned by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Ruler of Dubai, making today the first ever Derby win for his stable Godolphin.

Britain's biggest flat race today was a star-studded affair with celebrities such as Hollywood legend Dame Helen Mirren, Liz Hurley, singer Frankie Bridge and reality TV stars Millie Mackintosh and Hugo Taylor mingling with well-dressed horseracing fans and Royalty.
