SOUDERTON — Plans for a proposed winery to move into the freight building at the former train station will be presented to Souderton Borough Council next month.

"I did get confirmation the partners will be coming to the August 19 work session," Borough Manager Mike Coll said at council's July 15 work session meeting.

The plans would include adding to and making changes to the building, Coll had told council the previous week.

In answer to a question at the July 15 meeting about who would be responsible for paying for the additional work on the building, Coll said the details will be worked out later.

"There's certainly an understanding that the borough's gonna help with some things and they're gonna have to foot the bill for others, but we really didn't get into the meat of that," he said.

Souderton leases the train station and its two accompanying buildings from SEPTA and renovated the buildings and parking area to sublease to businesses.

In order for changes to be made to the building, both the borough and SEPTA would have to agree to the changes.

Council Vice President Jeff Gross said the plans include putting a new door in for a loading area.

"That is a historic part of the building and we want to stay as true to that as possible," he said.

Coll said the plan is for a roll up door, but one that is custom made.

In other matters at the meeting:

• Coll outlined the borough's income and expenses for the first half of the year compared to budget.

"The budget is tracking very, very close to projections," he said.

One area where it is running behind is at the pool, he said. Rainy days may have contributed to that, he said.

"Daily admissions seem to not be the draw," he said, "probably weather related and also we did increase the rate, so we're not seeing quite the gate revenue that we had."

• This year's Community Night Out will be 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13 in Souderton Community Park, Souderton Borough Police Chief James Leary said.

The night out includes a car show, food and entertainment and displays of public safety equipment and emergency responders.

"Bring the whole family," Leary said.
